How to Pick The Right Hair Product

We caught up with Akos Bodi, the European Educational Director of TIGI at Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2010. He is the man behind the hairstyles for the looks that you see on the runway at LFW this season. Bodi shares that he loves to the beautiful hair of Indian women because it is naturally healthy and has good density as well as texture.

Since, TIGI is a leading international hair care brand and has launched several hair styling products Bodi gave us the low-down on how to pick the best hairstyling product for your hair.

What’s a dry shampoo?
Basically dry shampoo neutralises the oil in your hair. It is very similar to baby powder that you use on your hair to control the oil. A dry shampoo has lighter and finer particles compared to a baby powder and is packaged in an aerosol container. When you spray the dry shampoo on your hair, it hits the oil patches and soaks it up making your hair look fresh and extends the lifespan of your hair style. But I would not recommend it as a regular shampoo for cleaning your hair.

If I have curly hair, how do I pick the best mousse?
Analyse your curls and find out whether it is coarse and rough or fine and soft. If your curls are soft, then choose a mousse that is light and supports your curls and not something that’ll make them crispy. If you have coarse curls, you need a strong mousse so that your curls are manageable.

What products are recommended for straight hair?
Use a shampoo and conditioner that suits the texture of your hair. After washing your hair, don’t rub it with a towel because that will break the cuticle and weaken your hair. Instead cover your head with the towel and gently squeeze out the water. And finally use a leave in conditioner to avoid knots. Apply the conditioner on the ends and not on the crown. You also need to trim your hair every two months.

Hair style trends for the bridal season
I believe that classic hairstyles look best on a bride because if the styling is too dramatic, it takes the attention away from the bride. So, keep it simple and neat.

Dominating hair trend this season
Straight hair is in and the ideal length is a little below the shoulders. But you must remember that straight long hair does not suit everybody. If you are too tall, a short hair cut will make your face look disconnected from the body and if you are short with really long hair it might seem like too much hair. So, you need to find a balance and a good hairstylist
